i rain on your city.
down here, it sits so still.

first the sight of a mirage
then a surge of ocean,
perched above the aquarium
below the sky ripped open

days found you a canary
in a peacock suit,
winged with heavy charity
and a submerged truth

the foundations fold into
ourselves
as polite hands do

wash down the broken teeth
past reengineered throats,
washed away all but spires
that now mark the shallows flows
& what u + i could always have known

a facade divorcing the frame
a lawn unpainted green
the lights burning a last second
under water, yet we still breathe
